We're in for an excellent afternoon of racing on NBCSN. Coverage of the Whitney Stakes begins in a few short hours, and the field is extremely strong. I am perhaps even more excited about the race just prior to the Whitney (The Test Stakes) and the return on Take Charge Brandi. Last year, she was the champion two year old female. This year, she won her three year old start at Oaklawn Park, but she has been out the rest of the year because of a bone chip in her knee.

Her owner, Willis Horton of Marshall, Arkansas, is a true gem. I had the privilege of interviewing him at E. Daniel Hardware Store on the court square in Marshall last summer. Here is the story: Willis Horton puts Marshall on the map. I always bet his horses, even when the odds are against me. I won--wait for it--$201.60 on my $2 across on Brandi in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. I'm still excited about it. A jockey named Victor Espinoza was up. Ever heard of him?

Tough tough choice, but I am playing Noble Bird over Honor Code in the Whitney. Fingers crossed . . .
