Haskell afterglow

The Dacus family is in Destin. Not a bad way to spend my last week before reporting to my teaching job. We hauled off the beach wholesale yesterday in the early afty to watch NBC's coverage of American Pharoah's first race since winning the Triple Crown: The William Hill Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park. We were thrilled to see him continue his string of victories even though we only won $.50 on our win bet and did not manage to hit the exacta or the tri.

I have been thinking of this moment a lot this summer (and writing about it a little): American Pharoah's first victory in 2015, the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park. I am proud that Pharoah's road to the Triple Crown started with us. I am a bit amazed that I stood this close to these champions before Pharoah became a total BFD.

The handsome husband and I are headed to the Breeders' Cup in October. We hope that Pharoah continues to point that way as well. It would be a magical end to a fairy tale year.
